Our team embraced the chance to design exterior and interior lighting for this new addition to Malcolm X College, located on Chicago’s west side. From the basketball court, to the school’s virtual hospital, to the library, our team introduced practical and unobtrusive illumination to every corner of the new facility. Most notably, we designed welcoming lighting for the building’s main entrance, which features a dais holding Malcolm X’s car beneath an enormous skylight. Our team worked with this striking centerpiece, installing staggered linear fixtures within the wood ceiling and subtly grazing the adjacent double-height mural of Malcolm X. Farther in, the cafeteria features custom linear square pendants that match the pattern of the wood ceiling, creating a streamlined and satisfying visual experience.
