Spice House

  • Location: Chicago, IL
  • Architect: Gensler
  • Project Completion: 2019
  • Photographer: Tom Harris

We approached the renovation of this shop in Old Town, Chicago with a strategically layered lighting design. First, globe pendants at the front of the store welcome shoppers with a warm and cozy glow. The exposed brick walls are splashed with light, while integrated LED lighting within the shelves highlights the products, bringing out the vibrant hues of the spices. Finally, adjustable track heads mounted on the bottom of the open rafter ceiling offer illumination to central displays and product labels. A similar track surrounds the cashier station, brightening the countertops and establishing a friendly luminance.
