Designing lighting for this project took a gentle touch and required a deft combination of illumination strategies. Primarily an amenity space meant to foster collaboration, this renovated office building in Louisville contains hospitality features such as lounges, cafes, and a full kitchen. Though the space is filled with WiFi hubs, LED screens, and other modern technologies, we maintained the warmth of the existing historic architecture by including nods to the building’s past, such as the indirect uplighting in the cafe that highlights the original industrial structure of the ceiling. This project asked us to strike a number of balances: between historic and modern, industrial and comfortable, warm and professional. In the end, we succeeded in creating an office workspace with the soul of the hospitality sector.
