Kehrein Center for the Arts

  • Location: Chicago, IL
  • Architect: Eckenhoff Saunders
  • Project Size: 22,000 SF 950-seat Auditorium
  • Project Completion: 2019

Located inside the CATALYST School in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, this auditorium had sat vacant for nearly fifty years. Our team renovated the downlighting in the space with new energy-efficient LEDs and implemented linear light that softly grazes across the winged walls. We also carefully lit the bold proscenium architecture. In the lobby, we replaced the downlights beneath the bridge leading to the theater balcony, opting for long linears to illuminate the room. We also installed decorative fixtures in the lobby windows. This renovation was a chance for our team to give back to the community by creating a beautiful space dedicated to the arts. The auditorium is now not only used for school concerts and plays, but also as a space for a local church.
