The elegant renovation of the Appleton Public Library transforms the structure into a bright hub for community engagement. With a subtle and collaborative approach, our team seamlessly integrated lighting into each corner of this beautiful new building. As the updated structure features several skylights and a new glass facade, we faced a challenge to incorporate the ample natural light into our design. Our solution was to rely on clever integration, such as hiding track lighting around the edges of skylights and walls. This thoughtful approach continues to the exterior, where strategically scaled illumination brings visitors’ experience down to a human level as they enter the building. Throughout the library, we layered styles and moods to delineate the open-plan space into distinct areas. Decorative acoustical fabric fixtures add softness to community zones, while more traditional linears sit above bookshelves. Additionally, the children’s area glows with creatively lit niches, offering a colorful and engaging environment for readers and writers of the next generation.
